„Wasser ist zum Waschen da, falleri und fallera, auch zum Zähneputzen, kann man es benutzen!“ Das bekannte Lied aus den 1950ern von der deutschen Schlagergruppe „Die Peheiros“ erzählt in lustigen Reimen wie wichtig das Wasser für uns zum Leben ist.
Die Menschheit wächst, das Weltklima verändert sich und tatsächlich ist sauberes Süßwasser, auf das wir nicht verzichten können, in manchen Teilen der Erde, wie Afrika, Asien oder Lateinamerika bereits knapp. Laut eines Berichts aus „Science Advances“ leiden rund 4 Milliarden Menschen einmal im Monat unter Wasserknappheit, meist in China oder Indien. Im Juni 2015 berichtete die Wochenzeitung „Die Zeit“ in Deutschland von der Wasserknappheit in Brasiliens Großstädten wie São Paulo und Rio de Janeiro. Grund genug, sich um einen verantwortungsbewussteren Umgang mit Wasser Gedanken zu machen.
Das Umweltbundesamt in Deutschland hat zu diesem Thema ein Nachhaltigkeitskonzept aufgestellt. Darin sind der sorgsame Umgang mit dem Wasser in Privathaushalten verzeichnet oder die Wasserwiederverwendung in Industrie und Landwirtschaft. So ist es zum Beispiel verboten, das Auto zu Hause zu Waschen. Stattdessen muss es in die Waschanlage. Zu Hause wird geraten wassersparende Duschköpfe und Spülkästen für die Toilette zu verwenden. Wasch- und Spülmaschinen immer voll beladen laufen lassen.
Medikamente und Farbreste dürfen nicht in der Toilette entsorgt werden, sondern gehören in den Hausmüll. Zum Waschen und Putzen sollen biologisch abbaubare Reinigungsmittel verwendet werden, deren Angebot stetig steigt. Um den Verbrauch von Pestiziden und Dünger zu senken, sollen verstärkt Produkte aus dem ökologischen Anbau gekauft werden und man soll auch im eigenen Garten darauf achten, nicht zu viel Düngemittel und möglichst kein Gift zu verwenden.
